HOW IT WORKS

How Attendance is Calculated

Attendance percentage is the number of classes you attended divided by the total number of classes held, multiplied by 100. The formula is:

Attendance % = (Classes Attended รท Total Classes Held) ร— 100

For example, if your college has held 45 lectures and you attended 38 of them, your attendance is (38 รท 45) ร— 100 = 84.4%. Most colleges and universities require a minimum of 75% attendance. Some courses are stricter and require 85% or higher.

This calculator also works in reverse: enter your target percentage and remaining classes, and it tells you exactly how many lectures you can still skip โ€” or how many you must attend โ€” to hit your goal.

THE 75% RULE

How Many Classes Can You Miss?

The table below shows the maximum lectures you can miss in a typical semester while staying at or above 75% attendance. Find your total class count, or enter your exact numbers in the calculator above.

Total Classes in Semester Must Attend (75%) Can Miss
403010
503812
604515
806020
1007525
1209030

Keep in mind that attendance is usually calculated per subject, not overall โ€” you can be at 85% overall and still fall short in one course. If you are planning your semester, always check your syllabus for specific class attendance policies.
