Calculate What You Need on the Final Exam
Enter your current grade before the final, the grade you want in the class, and how much your final exam is worth. The calculator will show the final exam grade you need to reach your goal.
How This Final Grade Calculator Works
This final grade calculator works backward from your target grade. It uses your current grade, your target grade, and the final exam weight to calculate the score you need on the final.
Required Final Exam Score = (Target Grade - Current Grade × (1 - Final Exam Weight)) ÷ Final Exam Weight
Enter the final exam weight as a percentage in the calculator. In the formula, the weight is treated as a decimal.
Example
Current grade: 82%
Target grade: 90%
Final exam weight: 25%
Required score = (90 - 82 × 0.75) ÷ 0.25
Required score = 114%
That means a 90% overall grade may not be possible unless your class allows extra credit or your teacher uses a different grading rule.

Final Grade Calculator With Percentages
Most classes use percentages to calculate grades. This final grade calculator with percentages is designed for courses where your current grade, target grade, and final exam weight are all shown as percentages.
Percentage Example
Current grade: 86%
Target grade: 90%
Final exam weight: 20%
The calculator uses those values to find the final exam score needed to reach the target grade.
Weighted Final Grade Calculator
This is a weighted final grade calculator because the final exam weight changes the result. A final exam worth 10% has a smaller effect on your overall grade than a final exam worth 40%.
| Final Exam Weight | Impact |
|---|---|
| 15% | Smaller impact on your overall grade |
| 30% | Medium impact on your overall grade |
| 50% | Major impact on your overall grade |
Use the final exam weight from your syllabus, course portal, or teacher instructions for the most accurate estimate.
What If Your Required Score Is Too High or Too Low?
What if you need more than 100%?
If the calculator shows a required score above 100%, your target grade may not be mathematically possible with regular grading. This can happen when your current grade is much lower than your target grade, the final exam weight is too small, or your target grade is very high.
What if you need less than 0%?
If the calculator shows a required score below 0%, you have already reached your target grade mathematically. You should still complete your final exam unless your teacher, school, or syllabus says otherwise.
