FORMULA

How to Calculate Cumulative GPA

Cumulative GPA is calculated as a credit-weighted average across all semesters. Semesters with more credit hours have more impact on your final CGPA than semesters with fewer credit hours.

Formula:
Cumulative GPA = Total of Semester GPA × Semester Credits ÷ Total Credits

Example:

  • Semester 1 GPA: 3.40 with 15 credits
  • Semester 2 GPA: 3.70 with 18 credits
  • 3.40 × 15 = 51.00
  • 3.70 × 18 = 66.60
  • Total grade points = 117.60
  • Total credits = 33
  • Cumulative GPA = 117.60 ÷ 33 = 3.56

This is how to calculate cumulative GPA for all semesters when each semester has a different number of credit hours.

HOW IT WORKS

How This CGPA Calculator Works

This CGPA calculator uses your semester GPA and credit hours to calculate your cumulative GPA.

1

Add Each Semester

Enter each completed semester or term you want to include in your CGPA calculation.

3

Calculate Your CGPA

The calculator multiplies each GPA by its credits, adds the results, then divides by total credits.

CGPA FROM GPA

CGPA Calculator From GPA

This tool works as a CGPA calculator from GPA because it uses your existing semester GPAs to calculate your overall cumulative GPA.

If your school gives you a semester GPA after each term, enter those GPA values with the related credit hours. The calculator combines those values into one CGPA.

  • Semester GPA: 3.25 with 12 credits
  • Semester GPA: 3.60 with 15 credits
4.0 SCALE

CGPA Calculator Out of 4

You can use this as a CGPA calculator out of 4 if your school, college, or university uses a 4.0 GPA scale.

Enter each semester GPA on the 4.0 scale and add the credits for that semester. If your institution uses a 5.0, 10.0, or percentage-based system, check your official conversion rules.

SEMESTER TRACKING

STUDENT USE CASES

High School and College Cumulative GPA Calculator

Students can use this calculator for both high school and college if their school uses GPA and credit hours.

A cumulative GPA calculator high school students can use is helpful for tracking academic progress before graduation, college applications, class rank reviews, and scholarship planning.

A cumulative GPA calculator college students can use is helpful for tracking degree progress, academic standing, major requirements, financial aid rules, and graduation planning.

GPA TERMS

CGPA vs GPA

GPA and CGPA are related, but they are not always used the same way.

TermMeaning
GPAGrade Point Average for one semester, term, or grading period.
CGPACumulative Grade Point Average across multiple semesters.
Cumulative GPAAnother name for CGPA, commonly used in the U.S.
Semester GPAGPA earned in one semester only.

GPA usually looks at one term. CGPA or cumulative GPA looks at your overall academic performance across all completed semesters.

WEIGHTING

Is Cumulative GPA Weighted or Unweighted?

Cumulative GPA can be weighted in two different ways, so it is important to understand what your school means.

This calculator is credit-weighted. That means semesters with more credit hours count more than semesters with fewer credit hours.

This is not the same as weighted GPA for honors, AP, IB, or advanced classes. If your school gives weighted GPA points for course difficulty, enter the official semester GPA shown on your transcript.

PERCENTAGE

CGPA Calculator to Percentage

Some students need to convert CGPA to percentage for applications, transcripts, or international forms.

This calculator focuses on calculating CGPA from semester GPA and credits. It does not apply one universal CGPA to percentage formula because schools and countries use different conversion rules.

Simple scale example:
CGPA Percentage = CGPA ÷ GPA Scale × 100

If your CGPA is 3.6 out of 4.0, then 3.6 ÷ 4.0 × 100 = 90%. This is only a simple scale estimate. Official percentage conversion may be different.

WHEN TO USE IT

When to Use This Cumulative GPA Calculator

Use this calculator when you want a quick estimate of your overall academic performance.

This calculator is especially helpful when your semester credits are not the same every term.

ACCURACY NOTE

Accuracy Note

This calculator gives an estimate based on the GPA and credit values you enter.

Your official cumulative GPA may depend on your school's GPA scale, grade replacement rules, transfer credits, repeated courses, pass or fail courses, weighted GPA policy, rounding rules, and other factors.

For official results, always check your school transcript, student portal, academic advisor, or registrar.
